The Empire is a human-dominated militaristic society, using a mighty Starfleet to conquer the stars. The Empire was one of the dominant powers in the Alpha Quadrant during the 22nd and well into the 23rd centuries. Most of the history of the mirror universe is quite different from the Prime timeline. On April 5th, Zefram Cochrane would make contact with the Vulcans. Unlike his Prime counterpart, who makes peace with the Vulcans, the mirror Cochrane shot one of them. This event would lead Cochrane's fellow terrans to board the Vulcan ship and steal their technology. This provided the rapid advancement of tech, which also led to the early expansion of the Empire. In 2267, the original Enterprise crew led by James T Kirk would encounter their mirror counterparts. This was due to a freak transporter accident. During this adventure, Kirk would suggest to the mirror-Spock that the Empire could not continue the way it was and that the only logical solution to the problem was peace. This outcome would lead to the assassination of Mirror Kirk. Spock would rise to the rank of grand admiral of Starfleet and later to Emperor. During his time as Emperor, he passed a series of reforms in the Empire towards peace. Spock would call for a peace summit at the Planet Khitomer. Most of the races were at the peace talks. However, all the major parties would highly disagree that peace would be an option. With the negotiations breaking down, the Empire would need someone to take the blame. Spock would soon go into hiding and would not be seen for quite some time until the last few years of the Terran-Alliance war. This led to his death at the hands of Data, who met him under Picard's orders to hunt Spock down.
